Meet Your Flock

Birds of
a Feather

Community members gather to lead dynamic Birds of a Feather sessions, sparking conversations on emerging themes and cross-disciplinary innovations shaping the future of computer graphics, interactive techniques, and beyond.

Submit to Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather (BOF) events provide a casual atmosphere for conference attendees to meet, exchange ideas, and share information in the format of either a Facilitated Discussion or a Meet-Up.

  • BOF Facilitated Discussions share non-commercial information with like-minded participants via discussion between organizers, panelists, and/or attendees. This might include a short introductory or organizational style presentation, though BOFs are intended to encourage communication and networking within SIGGRAPH communities. Content that is associated with juried programs such as new research, tool development, and methodologies should be submitted to the corresponding SIGGRAPH program (Technical Papers, Talks, Panels, Courses, etc.).
  • BOF Meet-Ups provide a place for attendees to gather informally with others who have interests in the same topic.

All participants, including organizers, must be registered at the Full Conference Supporter, Full Conference, or Experience levels to participate.

To be approved as a BOF, events must be:

  • Related to computer graphics and/or interactive techniques
  • Open to all registered SIGGRAPH 2026 attendees at the Full Conference Supporter, Full Conference, or Experience registration levels (exceptions may be approved for reunions and other social functions)
  • Non-commercial in nature (topics specific to one commercial product or company are not allowed)
  • Free of recruitment, sales, product tutorials, or company promotion
  • Free of additional charges beyond the SIGGRAPH registration requirement (exceptions for social functions)

SIGGRAPH 2026 Birds of a Feather events feature non-juried content but are subject to a review and approval process.

Types of BOF Submissions

Each BOF will be required to select the type of content that is to be presented upon submission.

  • Birds of a Feather Facilitated Discussion: The purpose of these BOF types is to share non-commercial information with like-minded participants via a discussion between organizers, panelists, and/or attendees.
  • Birds of a Feather Meet-Ups: The purpose of these BOFs is to gather informally and have a discussion with others who have interests in the same topic.

BOF Submissions

  • All BOF requests are submitted through the BOF submission system. BOF submissions close on 18 June.
  • BOFs begin on 19 July, when the conference opens, and can be scheduled through 23 July.
  • Time slots are first-come, first-served.
  • BOF sessions in the Los Angeles Convention Center can be no longer than four hours, including setup and teardown. Longer BOF sessions may be held in one of the SIGGRAPH 2026 official hotels.
  • There is no charge for use of the meeting rooms in the convention center.
  • All costs related to any BOF in the convention center or a hotel are the responsibility of the organizer.
  • BOF room sets in the convention center are permanent and cannot be changed. If your BOF requires a room set different than what is provided in the convention center, select a hotel as your preferred location.
  • BOF rooms have specific attendance capacities that must be followed. Please note the room capacities when requesting a room. Once a room has reached capacity, Student Volunteers will be instructed to restrict access to the room for additional attendees until individuals exit the room.

BOF requests can be made through the SIGGRAPH 2026 submission portal until 18 June 2026. Make sure all the information in your submission is accurate and complete before submitting. Missing information may delay processing your request. Email bofs-s2026@siggraph.org with questions.

A BOF submission form must be completed for each event even if it is from an organizer who has already completed other BOF submission forms.

Confirmation

Within two weeks of submission, organizers will be notified of the status of their submission via an email acknowledgement that includes all necessary contact information. BOFs located in hotels will receive a confirmed room assignment at that time. BOFs held in the convention center will receive a room assignment approximately three weeks prior to the conference.

Audio Visual Recording & Photography

Organizers must provide their own AV set if required. Organizers may use their own or order through the contact provided in the BOF confirmation. Any charges are the responsibility of the organizer.

BOFs can be recorded using the following guidelines:

  • If only the presenters are being recorded, the organizer needs to handle getting permission directly from all presenters. SIGGRAPH will not be involved in gathering these permissions.
  • If the audience is being recorded, the organizer either needs to get signed permissions from all audience members or provide signage at the door telling attendees that they are being recorded by the organizers, not SIGGRAPH, for the BOF.
  • SIGGRAPH will not include BOF recordings in any official conference documentation.
  • Photography is not permitted during BOFs without the express permission of the session organizer. If permission is granted, the organizer must clearly inform participants at the start of the session.

ASCAP/BMI Fees

ASCAP and BMI are membership associations of U.S. composers, songwriters, and publishers of every kind of music. Whenever music (recorded or live) is played at an event, a license must be purchased from these associations. The license purchase is the responsibility of the organizer and not the venue where the event is to be held.
